Email and WhatsApp are usually where a business's most sensitive conversations happen - invoices, client details, passwords shared "just this once." A few habits go a long way toward protecting them.
Turn on two-factor authentication
Both email providers and WhatsApp support two-factor/two-step verification. This alone blocks most account takeover attempts, even if a password leaks.
Never share passwords over chat
If a password needs to be shared, use a password manager's sharing feature rather than sending it in plain text over WhatsApp or email.
Watch for phishing attempts
Be cautious of unexpected emails asking to "verify your account" or WhatsApp messages from unknown numbers with urgent requests - these are the most common ways business accounts get compromised.
Lock your devices
A phone or laptop with WhatsApp/email logged in and no lock screen is an open door if it's lost or left unattended.
Back up important conversations
For WhatsApp Business, enable chat backup. For email, make sure important correspondence isn't only stored in one inbox with no backup.
